FOUR WHEELER has named the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon EcoDiesel the 2020 SUV of the Year for the second consecutive year! The 2020 Rubicon EcoDiesel is the most capable and fuel-efficient Wrangler ever with the highest torque-rate to date. This award is now in its 47th year and only open to all-new or significantly revised SUVs through invitation.

FOUR WHEELER is the world’s leading authority for 4x4 vehicles and provides two annual awards, SUV of the Year and Pickup Truck of the Year, the former of which was just recently named. FOUR WHEELER offers the latest information on off-road-capable vehicles. Judges from various 4x4 media brands such as 4-WHEEL & OFF-ROAD, FOUR WHEELER, and JP MAGAZINE, tested the Wrangler over the course of a week. Tests include more than 1,000 miles of varied terrain, including gravel, sand, dirt, rocks, mud, pavement, and snow. Water crossings and Hillclimb are also tested while night driving was integrated to gauge lighting equipment.

The standard engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with engine stop-start, although a mild-hybrid eTorque and EcoDiesel V6 engine are also available. The Wrangler’s design continues to feature a body-on-frame with front and rear five-link suspension, electronic lockers, and solid axles. It is one of the few SUVs on the market that offers both a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic.
The new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine provides the best 4x4 capability and driving range with 260 horsepower and 422 lb-ft of torque with stop-start engine technology. Wranglers with this engine are capable of 25 mpg combined. With the new TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission, which is calibrated for low RPM shifts, the Wrangler is able to handle greater torque loads and on- and off-road terrain. For increased fuel economy, performance, and 4x4 capability, there are more than 40 shift maps to optimize shift points. Judges claimed the Wrangler Rubicon EcoDiesel’s efficiency and power raises the bar for other 4x4s that were already outmatched.
