2025 Ram 1500 RHO Towing and Capability

For the 2025 model year, Ram has rolled out the new Hurricane engine, prioritizing fuel economy and lowering emissions while still providing V8-like performance. The Hurricane engine is a three-liter straight six-cylinder engine with two low-inertia, twin-scroll turbochargers for forced air induction. Essentially, Ram swapped two turbochargers in for two cylinders. The result? Greater fuel efficiency with even greater power. What's not to love? While the standard output variant of the Hurricane engine delivers 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque, the RHO uses the high-output variant, offering a heart-pounding 540 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. This power provides the RHO with exhilarating on-road performance to the tune of a 4.6-second 0-60 time, a quarter-mile time of 13.1 seconds, and a top speed of 118 MPH. Powering the RHO's standard four-wheel drive system is a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. The RHO, Ram's newest performance model, is 150 pounds lighter than the outgoing performance model, reducing the power-to-weight ratio for an increase in performance. 

With the new Hurricane engine, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO can tow up to 8,380 pounds of cargo behind it. Plus, the RHO features a wide range of standard and available features to enhance its towing capabilities. For example, the RHO comes with a total of nine drive modes, one of which is Tow mode. Tow mode, like the other drive modes, makes alterations to the powertrain to optimize it for towing. To provide higher amounts of torque from a stop with a trailer behind it, the transfer case is shifted into Low mode, optimizing the gear ratio for towing. Plus, like the rest of the Ram 1500 lineup, the RHO comes standard with a Class IV hitch receiver. Further towing capabilities are enhanced by optional features like Trailer Auto Hitch Assist, which allows the truck to take control of steering and guiding the hitch toward the trailer tongue while the driver focuses on the gas and brake pedals. This is similar to the Trailer Reverse Steering Control system, with which the driver can steer the trailer with a knob on the center console, while the truck controls the steering wheel. Other advanced towing technologies include blindspot monitoring with trailer coverage, a digital rearview mirror with tow mode, Trailer Tow Pages, reverse guidance with split screen view, and more.

The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO is as off-road capable as it looks with its towering ride height, massive tires, and wide, bulldog-like stance. The RHO rises far above the traditional Ram 1500 lineup with a daunting 11.8 inches of ground clearance to easily pass over trail obstacles. This ride height is thanks in part to the 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires, along with optimized breakover, approach, and departure angles. However, the most impressive off-roading feature of the RHO is the Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shock absorbers, providing mind-boggling suspension travel with 13 inches in the front and 14 inches in the rear. With this, the RHO is able to essentially crawl over trail obstacles while keeping the wheels in contact with the terrain, no matter how uneven it gets. This suspension travel is possible by storing the fluid in remote reservoirs, away from the suspension housing, connected by high-strength steel hoses. A secondary piston is in place in the shocks to prevent bottoming out in the event of full suspension compression. The nine aforementioned drive modes, Auto, Custom, Tow, Sport, Snow, Baja, Rock, Mud/Sand, and Valet, make adjustments to the traction control, torque split, transmission shift points, power output, suspension stiffness, and steering feel, along with other vehicle systems to maximize the truck's performance. To enhance traction on loose terrain, the RHO comes with a Dana 60 rear axle with full-float axle shafts. Meanwhile, an electronic locking rear differential locks the wheels at the push of a button to rotate at the same speed to maximize momentum and traction when it becomes limited.
