Jeep Wrangler 4xe Revealed

Written by Star Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM of Abilene

One of the best SUVs in the Jeep lineup is about to get a significant upgrade. In 2021, the Jeep Wrangler is coming out with a 4xe model, which is a plug-in hybrid that is capable of producing up to 25 miles of extremely quiet and zero-emission electric-only propulsion. The new Wrangler is extremely commuter friendly and is an all-electric SUV that is capable of being driven every day both on and off the road, which combines nicely with the type of open-air freedom that only Jeep can provide. Over the next few years, Jeep will offer an electric option on all of its vehicles to be the most eco-friendly automaker on the planet. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler looks to be the first success in this field for Jeep. Continue reading to find out more about the Jeep Wrangler 4xe!

A Stellar Combination

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe spectacularly combines two electric motors and a 400-volt battery pack with the fuel-efficient, turbocharged four-cylinder engine and Torqueflite eight-speed automatic transmission. One of the best things about this combination is that it can produce 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque and an estimated 50 mpg. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is a high-tech, direct-injection engine that uses a low-inertia turbocharger mounted directly to the cylinder head and provides impeccable responsiveness, performance, and fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the two high-voltage motors work to help manage the power and torque. A variable clutch mounted behind the e-motor operated the engagement with the transmission and improved drivability and efficacy. The Wrangler 4xe does not come with a conventional 12-volt starter motor; instead, it uses a 12-volt battery to run accessories.

More Interior Room

Along with a 400-volt, 17-kWh, 96-cell lithium-ion battery pack, the Wrangler 4xe's second-row seat has been completely redesigned, as it now allows the bottom cushion to flip forward to provide access to the battery. The battery is encased in aluminum and is fitted with a heating and cooling circuit that keeps it at an optimal temperature for the best possible performance. The 4xe's hybrid system comes with an Integrated Dual Charging Module that uses a battery charger and a DC/DC converter into a single unit. Meanwhile, the next-generation Power Inverter Module is reduced in size and is housed and protected from damage.

New Selec Modes

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is designed to give you a driving experience tailored to you, whether you're going for a night on the town or an off-road excursion. There are three modes of operation for the Wrangler 4xe, which are known as E Selec. The driver can choose which method they want to go with via buttons mounted on the instrument panel, to the left of the steering wheel. Hybrid is the default mode and is blends torque from the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the electric motor. While in this mode, the powertrain will use the battery power first and then mixes in the propulsion from the turbocharged engine when the battery reaches a minimum charge. Next up is the Electric mode, which operates only on the zero-emission electric power until the battery reaches a minimum charge state or the driver needs more torque. Last up is the eSave mode, which prioritizes the propulsion made from the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and saves the battery charged for later use, such as for off-roading. The driver can also select from Battery Save and Battery Charge during eSave thanks to the Hybrid Electric Pages in the Uconnect monitor.
